SoFi began introducing SoFiUSD access inside its app on May 27, letting members buy, sell, hold and convert the dollar-linked token. The company said the rollout was starting immediately, with full availability expected by early June as members updated their apps. Those dates come from SoFi’s announcement.

The release describes a bank-issued stablecoin available on Ethereum and Solana. SoFi says the token can be redeemed one-for-one for US dollars through SoFi Bank, which maintains liquid assets to support the outstanding supply.

App access arrives before the rest of the roadmap

The immediate change is access to SoFiUSD within the banking app. Several additional uses remain planned, including cross-border movement and a launch with exchange partner Bullish.

SoFi also plans to let members convert SoFiUSD into tokenized deposits. The announcement treats that as a separate future product step, with separate deposit-account terms. It links interest and access to deposit insurance to those planned deposits.

That distinction is central to reading the launch correctly. Buying a stablecoin in a banking app does not, by itself, turn the token into an insured deposit. SoFi’s release explicitly warns that cryptocurrency and other digital assets are not FDIC-insured and may lose value.

The difference between an app’s interface and the underlying product is familiar across finance apps and their banking arrangements. A balance can appear beside other financial products while carrying different terms and protections.

Redemption, networks and access answer different questions

One-for-one redemption describes the issuer’s exchange commitment. Ethereum and Solana support describes where the asset can operate. Neither statement, on its own, explains every fee or the timing of every movement a customer may try to make.

The May release does not publish a single price for all future payment functions. It also does not say that all the announced roadmap features are already enabled for every member.

For someone following the rollout, the concrete checks are whether SoFiUSD is enabled in their app and which actions the current product permits. The promised deposit conversion and broader payment features need their own availability announcements before they can be treated as live services.
