Blender Foundation released Blender 5.2 LTS on July 14, combining new creative tools with a two-year support window ending in July 2028. The release announcement highlights remotely hosted asset libraries, changes to rendering and drawing, and experimental work on procedural hair and cloth simulation.
For artists and studios, the long-term-support label offers a branch intended to receive maintenance while a production continues. Choosing that branch still requires checking the files, add-ons and rendering workflow used by the project.
Assets can be hosted beyond a local folder
Asset libraries now support remote hosting. Blender names its Online Essentials library as an example, while also allowing users to host their own collections. That can make shared materials and other assets easier to distribute across a team.
The practical change is how assets are obtained and shared. Teams still need a consistent arrangement for the assets a project depends on, especially when moving a scene to another workstation or preparing it for rendering elsewhere. Remote access does not remove the need to know which resources a file uses.
As with other open-source applications, obtaining the program and preserving a complete working project are separate tasks. Being able to open the main file is only part of being able to continue the work.
Rendering and drawing receive targeted changes
Cycles gains a texture cache and a Thin Wall mode for the Principled BSDF material system. The release also addresses usability issues in EEVEE, while Grease Pencil gains a new fill algorithm, additional line-material settings and more brushes through online assets.
Sculpting changes include a Scene Project brush and an Add Primitive operator. Blender says the voxel remesher now preserves vertex colors and other attributes, an important detail when changing a mesh without wanting to discard its surface information.
The Geometry Nodes simulation work deserves a separate label: Blender calls the procedural approach to hair and cloth experimental. It is available to explore, but the release announcement does not present it as a settled replacement for every existing production workflow.
The foundation also reports refinements to animation, the Video Sequencer and the interface. The release notes linked from its announcement provide the component-level detail for teams preparing an upgrade.
